Tarifa is a very special place for people interested in archeology . For it's strategically important position roman ruins in Bolonia as well as medieval remains in Tarifa can be observed.
The two main sites to be visited are, first, the ruins of Baelo Claudia in Bolonia, which date from 100 BC This was a Roman town centering the salt-fish factory, theatre, Roman baths, a cementary etc.
Very important in Tarifa is the castle of Guzmán el Bueno build in the year 1000 and originaly Muslim. The view from it's towers across the straights is spectacular!
Tarifa's old town is full of history accentuated by the surrounding town walls.
However, not to forget other monuments in Tarifa such as the Castle of Santa Catalina; the walls of Baelo Claudia yand the Almedina; the Tower of Cabo de la Plata; the Tower of Guadalmesí; the Tower of Las Palomas; the Tower of Punta Camarinal; the Tower of Rayo the Tower of La Peña.
