THE TOP SURFSPOTS

EL PALMAR
Location: between Conil and Canos de Meca.
Activity:surfing.
Waves: beach break, westerly swells, strong waves.
Wind: Levante offshore, Poniente onshore.
Dangers: currents can get very strong.
Parking: plenty - all along the beach.
Extras: A great surf spot - one of the best in southern Spain. Good angle for westerly swells.

LOS CANOS DE MECA
location: 10 minute drive north of Barbate
Activity: windsurfing, surfing, kitesurfing.
Waves: westerly swells with a reef break.
Wind: Levante sideshore, Poniente side onshore.
Dangers: strong currents and rocks at low tide.
Parking: allong the beach close to the apartments.
Extras: windsurfers come here when the Levante is too strong in Tarifa. Ideal conditions for wavesurfers at low tide; easy and predictable waves.

ZAHARA DE LOS ATUNES
Location: between Barbate and Bolonia.
Activity: windsurfing.
Waves: powerful with north wind.
Wind: North offshore.
Dangers: strong offshore currents.
Parking: on the beach direction Barbate.
Extras: A great windsurfing spot when the wind is northerly. Best time is in the morning.

BOLONIA
Location: 10 minuets drive from Tarifa going towards Cadiz.
Activity: windsurfing, surfing.
Waves: beach break and good swells.
Wind: Levante sideshore and Poniente sideshore.
Dangers: none.
Parking: beside the chiringuitos.
Extras: stunning location, beautiful landscape, great conditions with swell and Levante.

PUNTA PALOMA
Location: 5 minuete drive from Tarifa, direction Cadiz.
Activity: windsurfing, kitesurfing, surfing.
Waves: good waves with southwest wind, beach break.
Dangers: rocks at low tide.
Parking: Along thebeach in front of Camping El Jardin de la Dunas.
Extras: try the small beach around Capo. There are often good surfing conditions there.

ARTE VIDA
Location: 2kms from Tarifa going towards Cadiz.
Activity: surfing & windsurfing.
Waves: good waves whe there is a strong poniente.
Wind: Poniente side onshore.
Dangers: rocks - be careful at low tide.
Parking: at Arte Vida hotel.
Extras: one of the best spots for poniente. A good place to learn, popular with longboard riders

BALNEARIO
Location: beside La Iala de La Paloma Tarifa.
Activity: windsurfering, surfing.
Waves: Big clean waves with a strong west wind.
Wind: southwest.
Dangers: strong currents, rocks at the roasd out to the island.
Parking: on the beach beside the island.
Extras: strong southwest winds can produce pro conditions. Ideal wave conditions are swell with light levante.

GETARES
Location: just before Algeciras, coming from Tarifa.
Activity: windsurfing, surfing, kitesurfing.
Waves: big when there is a strong Levanate wind.
Wind: Levante onshore.
Dangers: rocks.
Parking: at the left side of the bay.
Extras: good for windsurfing when Levante is very strong. Best for wave surfing after the wind has died down.

PALMONES
Location: turn off the N 340 at Palmones and head towards the coast.
Activity: windsurfing and kitesurfing.
Waves: windwaves on sandbank.
Wind: Strong Levante.
Dangers: pollution, low water levels at low tide.
Parking: beside the river.
Extras: good spot for jumping.
